Thornbury tip is owned and operated by South Gloucestershire council, Thornbury Recycling Centre allows you to recycle the following items here:
- batteries (household – dry cell)
- books
- bric-a-brac for reuse e.g. garden hand tools, furniture, crockery and bikes
- cardboard
- cartons/TetraPaks
- cooking oil
- DVDs and CDs
- electrical equipment e.g. kettle, iron, toaster, cooker, washing machine
- food and drinks cans
- furniture – in reusable condition
- glass bottles and jars
- garden waste except for invasive species such as Japanese Knotweed
- hardcore and rubble – maximum of six rubble sacks or equivalent boot load per month free of charge
(quantities over the 6 bag limit carry a charge of £2.50 per bag, inclusive of VAT payable to SUEZ).
Trailer charges are based on material left in the trailer after the 6 bag limit has been reached
– up to 1 metre in length: £10
– between 1 metre and 1.5 metres in length: £15
– between 1.5 metres and 2 metres in length: £25 - hazardous waste in small quantities (see details below)

- plasterboard – maximum of 6 sheets or bags for each project
- rigid plastics such as toys and garden furniture
- scrap metal
- soil – maximum of six bags or equivalent boot load per month
- textiles and shoes (tied together in pairs) – not currently accepted
- wood including MDF, chipboard furniture, fencing and other treated wood, large logs and other untreated wood
